Our Story

We Love the mountains and …

have dreamed of owning a small comfortable café to relax with friends, family, co-workers, and guests to enjoy a great cup of coffee and share our stories together.
Both my parents are from Madeira Island (Portugal).  I was fortunate enough to be born in Funchal, Madeira and came to America when I was about 5 years old. My mother was a wonderful example and mentor as she worked her way from seamstress to owning and operating her own small business in creating women’s sportswear.

My wife Nancy and I have two children, Erik and Karen. We moved to Asheville in November of 1994 and just love it here!

We hope to introduce our guests and Asheville to a “New Taste”  with some of our Portuguese family-inspired menu and trust they will enjoy. Our goal is to create an environment “Place of Destination” that feels like coming home where our guests can meet with family, friends, and co-workers to enjoy their company.

How Did You Come Up With the Name & Logo?

I’m often asked how our name Fill My Cup Cafe and our logo came about.  I thought I would share a bit about the background and story behind the logo.  Summer of 2015, I was dreaming of the concept for our cafe.  During late summer, I began to study Psalms 23, and during this study period, verse 5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over” had special meaning. It’s through this study and prayer that our name “Fill My Cup Cafe” came about.  My prayer is that God uses Fill My Cup Cafe to build relationships, help us to serve and love people, and through this we honor Him.

Once we had our name, my wife, daughter, and son helped me to develop our logo.  We wanted the cup to be prominent in our logo. We added the halo above the “E” in cafe and below the cup itself.  The three symbols above the cup have an appearance of an angel.  We selected the three colors (Gold, Purple, and Teal Blue) to represent royalty and the Island of Madeira.

Our hope is that Fill My Cup Cafe becomes a place of destination for our friends and family, as well as new friends to be.  Look forward to seeing you soon.
